Introduction

This reassessment course is designed for experienced domestic gas engineers who hold existing ACS (Accredited Certification Scheme) core and appliance certificates and wish to renew them. At Hull Gas Training Ltd in Hull, East Yorkshire, we provide focused refresher training and assessment for the mandatory core domestic safety module (CCN1) along with appliance extensions (CENWAT – central heating and water heaters, HTR1 – fires & wall heaters, CKR1 – cookers).

Under UK industry standards, engineers must reassess within five years of their last certificate, and if their previous certificate has expired more than 12 months they must undertake the initial assessment instead. Our package supports this requirement, ensuring you remain competent, compliant with Health and Safety Executive (HSE) obligations and eligible to remain on the Gas Safe Register.

Who This Course Is For

• Qualified domestic gas engineers with existing CCN1 core domestic safety certificate.
• Those seeking to renew their appliance modules (CENWAT, HTR1, CKR1) alongside CCN1.
• Engineers whose certificates expire within the next six months (re-assessment window) or have lapsed less than 12 months.
• Operatives wishing to maintain registration on the Gas Safe Register and continue working legally in the UK domestic gas sector.

What You’ll Learn

Module 1: CCN1 – Core Domestic Gas Safety

• Current gas safety legislation including Gas Safety (Installation & Use) Regulations.
• Gas installation pipework, tightness testing, purging and low/medium pressure procedures.
• Ventilation and flueing requirements, chimney systems and fan-assisted appliances.
• Combustion fundamentals — gas rates, burner pressures and appliance controls.
• Unsafe situations, emergency procedures, isolation controls and warning labels.

Module 2: Appliance Modules – CENWAT, HTR1 & CKR1

• CENWAT – servicing, commissioning and fault-finding on domestic central heating boilers and water heaters.
• HTR1 – installation and maintenance of domestic gas fires and wall heaters including inspection and flue integrity.
• CKR1 – servicing, installation and fault-finding on domestic gas cooking appliances.
• Practical application of gas safety devices, burners, controls and fault diagnosis in a realistic working bay environment.

Assessment & Certification

• Multiple-choice open-book theory assessments covering CCN1 and your chosen appliance modules.
• Observed practical assessment in a simulated domestic gas appliance environment covering installation, servicing and fault-finding.
• On successful completion, you will receive a new ACS certificate for CCN1 and the appliance modules you undertook, valid for five years.
