Introduction

Our Commercial Gas Heating Changeover Package is designed for experienced domestic gas engineers who wish to either extend their scope into commercial gas work or renew their commercial qualifications. Based in Hull, East Yorkshire, at Hull Gas Training Ltd, we deliver both training and assessment in core commercial gas safety, commercial pipework installation and servicing of commercial heating appliances.

This course can be taken as an initial assessment for engineers moving into commercial scope, or as a reassessment for those whose commercial credentials are expiring. Under UK industry standards, engineers must hold suitable domestic qualifications and typically be registered on the Gas Safe Register for a minimum period before extending into commercial work.

What You’ll Learn

Module 1: Core Commercial Gas Safety (CODNCO1)

• Commercial gas safety legislation, regulations and standards specific to non-domestic installations.
• Unsafe situations and emergency procedures applicable to commercial settings.
• Ventilation, flueing and system design differences between domestic and commercial gas systems.
• Strength testing, tightness testing, direct purging of commercial pipework and correct installation practices.
• Combustion analysis, burner pressures, meter regulators and appliance controls in a commercial environment.

Module 2: Commercial Pipework & Appliances (CORT1, CIGA1, ICPN1 etc.)

• CORT1 – installation, servicing and maintenance of overhead radiant tube heaters and plaque heaters in commercial buildings.
• CIGA1 – servicing, commissioning and fault-finding of indirect-fired commercial heating appliances.
• ICPN1 – first-fix installation of commercial gas pipework, including large bore pipework and fittings.
• Practical tasks in realistic commercial workshop environment: large-scale pipework installation, appliance commissioning, fault diagnosis and certification readiness.

Assessment & Certification

• The assessment comprises multiple-choice theory exams (open-book) and practical assessments tailored to commercial systems (core safety, pipework, appliances).
• On successful completion you will receive the relevant ACS certificates (changeover and/or commercial modules) recognised under LCL Awards or equivalent awarding bodies, valid for five years before reassessment.
• These certifications enable you to register for commercial gas work under the Gas Safe Register (subject to full registration criteria). Ensure you meet the registration requirements around experience and registration duration.
