Course Overview

Build the practical skills and up-to-date knowledge you need to install, commission, service and maintain oil-fired systems. This two-day package brings together OFT10-101, OFT10-105E and OFT10-600A, combining hands-on training on live rigs with clear, assessor-led preparation for the written and practical assessments.

Who This Course Is For

  • Practising plumbing and heating engineers moving into oil, or adding oil alongside gas/renewables.
  • Engineers renewing existing OFTEC qualifications.
  • Experienced operatives (Category 2) with relevant industry background seeking OFTEC registration.

You’ll train at our Hull centre with experienced assessors, small groups and modern equipment, with all key reference materials available on the day.

What You’ll Learn

OFT10-101 – Commissioning & Servicing (Pressure-Jet Appliances)

  • Health & safety, safe electrical isolation, and regulatory requirements.
  • Boiler/burner commissioning, servicing procedures and setting combustion correctly.
  • Fault finding: installation faults, burner/boiler faults, and remedial actions.
  • Ventilation and flueing principles for domestic/light commercial appliances.

OFT10-105E – Installation of Oil & Bio-Liquid Fuelled Appliances & Systems

  • Design and installation of fixed combustion appliances (e.g., boilers, range cookers).
  • System layouts, pipe sizing calculations and energy-efficiency measures.
  • Ventilation and flue selection, commissioning and handover.
  • Applicable codes of practice and regional legislation.

OFT10-600A – Installation of Oil Storage & Supply Systems

  • Oil storage tank selection, siting, installation and associated pipework.
  • Fire-valve installation and protection; environmental considerations.
  • Standards and regulations for domestic and non-domestic storage.

Assessment & Certification

  • Assessments: open-book written papers plus observed practical tasks for each module.
  • Certification: on successful completion you’ll receive an industry-recognised certificate (e.g., ERS/LCL Awards) for each module.
  • Validity: certificates are typically valid for five years before reassessment is required.
